Wow! Happy (?) almost new year to all Gregorians, and to the rest of us who must hew to their calendar. I can hear them chanting now. (Not kidding; you can find hours and hours of this stuff online.)
OK, I turned off the chants. They were starting to annoy me. Let me instead draw your attention to this Monday, when you have an incredible opportunity to see three new works debut - if you’re in Chicago and free at 6pm. [tickets here]

Safety Shakes (2024, 7min, BW 16mm with live soundtrack) is a collaboration with Charly Heath. We filmed this footage over the past few years and have been editing it old-school with white gloves and a tape splicer. In the film, my body twists, trembles and thrashes with ecstatic abandon. Charly and I will play a live score on stage, using synths, loops and a drum machine. Welcome catharsis, play and sumptuous shadows. Really lovely, excited to show this.
Everybody’s Tripping (2024, 20min, overhead projector and audio performance) is a mythic fable about being on drugs at an anarchist meeting. Illustrated via paper silhouettes on a warm classroom projector, and narrated with myriad voices and looping soundscapes, this piece is sure to make you feel weird and probably laugh too. Includes a new song :) with a pretty keyboard harmony.

Hello Loves (2025~, 10min, S8mm on digital) is a poetic little piece compiled from home movies shot over the past couple decades, and voice notes sent and received over the past couple years. It’s a feel good movie about love, which is just the way I hope we can enter the new year. Here, listen to this sample:
Monday at 6pm on NYE eve is a weird time for a show. But if you’re reading this, you’re probably a weird person (my favorite kind). I hope to see you there. Get your tickets here and bring your friends, too.
Wishing you fortitude, curiosity and connection through this troubled time,
- Lark
